Chris Brown's Antarctica

Christopher Brown or simply Chris, is presently undergoing training to serve as a Marine Engineer in Australia. He was a member of the Australian Expedition team in 2007 that went to Antarctica to take care and maintain the Mawson Station as an Electrician. He could have gone to Antarctica as a photographer! His photographs says so! We in Milansagar were honoured when he agreed to put up some of his photos here. We asked for his biodata. What he gave us turned out to be such a lucid reading, that we decided to put it up unedited.

WE CONGRATULATE THE COURAGEOUS PEOPLE OF WEST BENGAL AND THEIR LEADER MAMATA BANERJEE (DIDI), WHO SUCCEEDED IN BRINGING ABOUT THE CHANGE AFTER 35 YEARS !

Please give your opinion on what would you like the New Govt of Didi to do to alliviate the sufferings of the people of the state.

Her proactive steps have already shaken the Govt machnery out of its long slumber!

The Govt officers and staff are now at their respective tables by 10AM dot and do not leave the leave for their homes before 5PM! The hospitals are seeing Doctors at scheduled times (almost!).

The following is a forwarded e-mail going around. It has been written by Dr. N.K. Kalia. Saurabh Nagar, Palampur-176061, Himachal Pradesh. Tel: +91 (01894) 32065. Dr. N.K. Kalia's son Lt. Saurabh Kalia, who along with 5 others, were brutally tortured and killed by Pakistan at Kargil. Plese put down your thoughts as Comment below in this page.

Dear Sir/Madam* ,

SPARE 5-MINUTES from ur busy schedule .PLEASE !!!

Lt. Saurabh Kalia of 4 JAT Regiment of the Indian Army laid down his life at the young age of 22 for the nation while guarding the frontiers at Kargil.

His parents, indeed the Indian Army and nation itself, lost a dedicated, honest and brave son. He was the first officer to detect and inform aboutPakistani intrusion.

Pakistan captured him and his patrol party of 5brave men alive on May 15, 1999 from the Indian side of LOC. They were kept in captivity for three weeks and subjected to unprecedented brutal torture, evident from their bodies handed overby Pakistan Army on June 9, 1999. The Pakistanis indulged in dastardly acts of inflicting burns on theseIndian officers with cigarettes, piercing their ears with hot rods, removing their eyes before puncturing them and breaking most of the bones and teeth. They even chopped off various limbs and private organs of the Indian soldiers besides inflicting unimaginable physical and mental torture. After 22 days of torture, the brave soldiers were ultimately shot dead.

A detailed post-mortem report is with the Indian Army. Pakistan dared to humiliate India this way flouting all international norms. They proved the extent to which they can degrade humanity.

However, the Indian soldiers did not break while undergoing all this unimaginable barbarism, which speaks volumes of their patriotism, grit, determination, tenacity and valour - something all of India should be proud of. Sacrificing oneself for the nation is an honour every soldier would be proud of, but no parent, army or nation can accept what happened to these brave sons of India .

I am afraid every parent may think twice to send their childin the armed forces if we all fall short of our duty in safeguarding the PRISONERS OF WAR AND LET THEM MEET THE FATE OF LT. SAURABH KALIA.

It may also send a demoralising signal to the army personnel fighting for the Nation that our POWs in Pak cannot be taken care of. It is a matter of shame and disgust that most of Indian Human Rights Organisations by and large, showed apathy in this matter. Through this humble submission, may I appeal to all the civilized people irrespective of colour, caste, region, religion and political lineage to stir their conscience and rise to take this as a NATIONAL ISSUE !!!

International Human Rights Organizations must be approached to expose and pressure Pakistan to identify, book and punish all those who perpetrated this heinous crime to our men in uniform. If Pakistan is allowed to go unpunished in this case, we can only imagine the consequences.

Jyoti Basu the CPIM patriarch and former Chief Minister of West Bengal is no more.
He passed away at 1147AM on 17th January 2009.
He ruled the state uninterrupted for more than 23 years.

হার্মাদের পর কি মাওবাদ !?

এসেছিলেন কঠিন পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণ হয়ে,
মানুষের আশা আকাঙ্খার প্লাবনে ভর ক’রে,
আমার সদ্য আসা যৌবনে
সেদিনের সে উল্লাস, সে আনন্দ,
প্রৌঢ়ত্বের ভাঙা রেকর্ডের মাঝেও স্মৃতিতে উজ্জ্বল

বিশ্বের ইতিহাস বলেছিল ---
সভ্যতার অভিজ্ঞতা বলেছিল ---
যে যায় লঙ্কায় সেই রাবণ!
সদ্য আসা যৌবনের গরম রক্ত এক কথায় তা উড়িয়ে দিয়েছিল

বরাবরই ছিল রাষ্ট্রীয় সন্ত্রাস!
পরে এল লাল সন্ত্রাস!
শাসক দলের পেটোয়া পুলিশের হাতে বন্দুক
নব্য-বিপ্লবীদের হাতে বন্দুক
নিন্দুকেরা বললো “হার্মাদ” !
তিন যুগ পেরিয়ে তাদেরই মৌরুসী পাট্টা জমে উঠেছিল
খুন, ধর্ষণ, দখলদারী!
বেশ চলছিল সবাই মেনেই নিয়েছিল

ভদ্রলোকেরা বলতো ---
বিকল্প কোথায় ? এদের সরিয়ে কাকে আনতে চাও হে ?

তাই, ওভাবেই চলছিল
রুখে দাঁড়ালেন একদল মানুষ
সিঙ্গুর!
নন্দীগ্রাম!

সেখানে নাকি বন্দুকধারীরাও গিয়েছিলেন
যাঁরা নিজেদের মাওবাদী বলেন লড়েওছিলেন মরেওছিলেন
তাঁদের নেতা বললেন

তবুও মানুষ মূল স্রোতের দলগুলোকেই বেছে নিয়েছিলেন
কারণ শত হলেও তাঁদের সাথে কথা বলা যায়
তাঁরা সব সময় মুখ ঢেকে পিঠে বন্দুক ঝুলিয়ে ঘুরে বেড়ান না

বিশাল সংখ্যক বিরোধী দলের মধ্যে থেকে মানুষ একটিকেই বেছে নিলেন
না
একটি জোটকে!

দম্ভের চূড়া থেকে বলা হলো রামধনু জোট!

ফল খারাপ হয় নি
কাঁধে বন্দুক ঝুলিয়ে না ঘুরলেও সেখানে রাজার দিন শেষ
সেদিন যাঁরা মার খাচ্ছিলেন, এখন তাঁরাই রাজ করছেন, সেখানে

এরপর এল লালগড়
সেখানে স্বতস্ফূর্ত জনগণের আন্দোলন ভালোই দানা বাঁধছিল
বুদ্ধিজীবীরা গিয়ে দেখা করে এলেন
জানিয়ে এলেন সমর্থন
কবিরা লিখলেন কবিতা
দেওয়া হলো সুর
গাওয়া হলো গান
কিন্তু!
কখন যে আন্দোলনটি মাওবাদীরা হাইজ্যাক্ করে নিলেন বোঝাও গেল না
এখন তো বোঝাই যায় না কোথায় জনগণ শেষ আর মাওবাদ শুরু!

আন্দোলন চলছে, চলবে
জনগণের প্রতিবাদের জন্য সেখানে ভোট বয়কট হলো
যাদের হেরে ভুত হবার কথা ছিল,
তারাই আবার জিতে গেলেন!
কারণ, বৃহত্তর মানুষ গোসা করে ভোট দিতে যান নি!
না! তাঁদের ভোট দিতে যেতে বারণ করা হয়ছিল!
যদি যেতেন, তাহলে আজ তাঁরাও রাজ করতেন
সিঙ্গুর নন্দীগ্রামের মত
নিজেদের হাতে চলে আসতো নিজেদের ভবিষ্যত গড়ার চাবিকাঠি
নিজেদের উন্নয়ণের চাবিকাঠি
আসে নি

তাতে সেখানকার জনগণের কতটা লাভ হলো কে জানে
কিন্তু মাওবাদীরা খুশি
যে গণরোষের কালোমেঘ সেখানে দানা বেঁধেছে,
তা তাঁদের প্রভাব বিস্তারের জন্য প্রশস্ত
তাঁরা এখন জনগণের অভিভাবকের ভূমিকায়
তাঁরাই বলে দেন, মানুষকে, মিডিয়াকে---
কে, কবে, কোথায়, কেমন ক’রে আন্দোলন করবেন
কোন জনগণের নেতা কোথায়,
কবে কি করবেন! কোথায় দেখা দেবেন!
দিনে যৌথ বাহিনী মার্চ করে হাতে বন্দুক নিয়ে!
রাতে মাওবাদীরা মার্চ করে হাতে বন্দুক নিয়ে!
যেন কানা মাছি ভোঁ ভোঁ খেলা!
এঁদের মাঝে পড়ে জনগণই চিঁড়ে চ্যাপ্টা!
মাঝে মাঝে গুলি চলে
লাশ পড়ে

একের পর এক লাশ পড়ে
প্ল্যান টা ঠিক কি ?
শাসক দলকে ক্ষমতা থেকে সরানো না কি তাদের মাথা ধড় থেকে সড়ানো ?
ভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক মতবাদের জন্য যদি এমন ক’রে মরতে হয়,
তাহলে ধর্মীয় দাঙ্গা কি দোষ করেছিল ?

তাঁরা যদি কোনোও দিন ক্ষমতায় আসেন,
তাহলে কি একটা কথাও বলতে পারবে কেউ
কবিতা লেখা তো দূরের কথা!
"প্রতিবাদ"-এর "প্রতি"টি শব্দই পড়বে "বাদ"!

জনগণ এখন চেপে আছে একটা বাঘের পিঠে!
নামতেও পারছে না! ছাড়তেও পারছে না!

কোনো প্রতিবাদও শোনা যাচ্ছে না
আসলে যাঁদের হাতে বন্দুক, তাও আবার স্বয়ংক্রিয়,
যাঁদের ক্ষমতার উত্স বন্দুকের নল,
তাঁদের বিরুদ্ধে মুখ খোলাটা কি বুদ্ধিমানের কাজ!?

দুষ্ট কবির বুদ্ধি আছে, এ কথা কে কবে বলেছে!?
তাই তাঁর জিজ্ঞাসা ---
হার্মাদের পর কি মাওবাদ !?

কেউ কেউ বলেন ব়্যাগিং নাকি ছেলে মেয়েদের সাবলিল হওয়ার পক্ষে জরুরী একটা পর্ব যা কলেজে প্রবেশ করার পরে শুরু হয় । আবার অনেকে মনে করেন যে এটি একটি সামাজিক ব্যাধি । কে কতটা স্মার্ট হল কি না তা দেখার দায়ীত্ব আর অধিকার কলেজের সিনিয়ার ছেলে মেয়েদের কে দিয়েছে? অনেক ক্ষেত্রে দেখা গেছে যে নতুন ছেলে মেয়েরা বড়দের বিক্রিত যৌন-মানসিকতার শিকারও হচ্ছে । অনেক ক্ষেত্রে নতুন ছাত্র-ছাত্রীকে বাড়ি ফিরে যেতে হয়েছে নানান মানসিক অসুস্থতা নিয়ে । ব়্যগিং এর নামে শারীরিক অত্যাচারের ফলে ছাত্র-ছাত্রী কে সারা জীবনের জন্য বিকলাঙ্গ হয়ে বাড়ি ফিরতে হয়েছে । বেশ কয়েকটি ক্ষেত্রে ছাত্রের মৃত্যুও ঘটেছে। এসব বিষয়ে কোনো কোনো ক্ষেত্রে কড়া পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া হলেও বেশীরভাগ ক্ষেত্রেই তা হয় না । পশ্চিম বঙ্গের কলেজগুলোতে অবস্থা তো আরও খারাপ! স্কুল কলেজ তো দূরের কথা পশ্চিম বঙ্গে, স্বাভাবিক জীবনে সাধারণ মানুষ আজ কোনো কিছু দেখলে-শুনলে, চুপ করে থাকাই বেশী "শান্তি"-র বলে মনে করে । কিছু হলেই বলে বেশ শান্তিতে আছি, ঝামেলার মধ্যে গিয়ে লাভ নেই । বেশী প্রতিবাদ করতে গেলে গায়ে মাওবাদীর তকমা এঁটে দেবে সরকার ! এই যখন অবস্থা তখন ব়্যাগিং এর বিরুদ্ধে ছেলে মেয়েরা মুখ খুলবে, এটা আশা করা উচিত না ।

Ragging

Some people say that Ragging is a necessary chapter in the lives of the boys and girls, which starts when they join colleges, to make them smart. Whlie others say that it has become a social evil. Who has given the responsibility and the rught to the senior students to make the freshers smart?Some times the freshers are the victims of warped sexual psychological behaviours of their senior students. Many of them had to return home with psychological disorders, while many have been physically affected for the rest of their lives, due to tortures in the name of Ragging. Some boys and girls have even been killed during Ragging!While strong steps are taken in a few cases, mostly nothing serious is done about it by the authorities. Situation in the Colleges of West Bengal is worse! Forget about schools and colleges, the ordinary person here prefers to keep quiet even if he or she witnesses a wrongdoing. They prefer to remain quiet in exchange for being left in "Peace"! If anything happens they will say that oh we are living in "Peace", there is no use of getting into trouble! If you protest too much you may be lebeled as a "Maoist"! When such is the state of affairs, we should not expect the students to come out with the facts against Ragging during an investigation.

আমাদের উত্তরের প্রতিবেশী বন্ধু রাষ্ট্র নেপাল-এর ইতিহাসে একটি স্বরণীয় সময় চলছে। সেখানে দীর্ঘ দিন ধরে মাওবাদী নেতা প্রচণ্ড-এর নেতৃত্বে আন্দোলনের পরে একটি সাধারণ নির্বাচনে তাঁরা ক্ষমতা দখল করেছেন। এবার কেউ এটা বলতে পারবে না যে তাঁরা শুধু বন্দুকের নলের জোরে এসেছেন। নেপালের মানুষ নেপালের রাজশাহীর অত্যাচারে অতিষ্ঠ হয়েই যে এঁদের বেছে নিয়েছেন তাতে কোনো সন্দেহ নেই । যেহেতু নির্বাচনে তেমন কোনো রকমের রিগিং বা ভীতি-প্রদর্শনের অভিযোগ পাওয়া যায় নি, আমাদের এটা নেপালের জনগণের রায় হিসেবেই মেনে নিতে হবে ।

নেপালের অপসারিত রাজা জ্ঞানেন্দ্রের উত্থান হয়েছিল এক গভীর ষড়যন্ত্রের মধ্য দিয়ে, যার সত্য আজও উদ্ঘাটিত হয় নি । শ্রী বীরেন্দ্র বীর বিক্রম শাহ দেব (নিহত প্রাক্তন রাজার পোষাকী নাম) হঠাত্ এক দিন সপরিবারে আততায়ীর হাতে নিহত হন, তাঁর নিজের প্রাসাদেই! তারপর থেকেই জ্ঞানেন্দ্রের উত্থান । এই ঘটনায় নেপালের জনগণও ক্ষুব্ধ হয়েছিলেন কিন্তু কোনো কথা বলতে পারেন নি । সেই সব ঘটনাবলিও জ্ঞানেন্দ্রের পতনের কারণ, তাতে সন্দেহ নেই ।

যাই হোক এখন এক নতুন সূর্য নেপালের আকাশে উদিত হচ্ছে । আমরা আসন্ন দিনগুলিতে যাতে তাঁদের জীবন সুখ-শান্তি-সমৃদ্ধিতে ভরে ওঠে সেই প্রার্থনা করে নেপালের জনগণকে জানাই আমাদের শুভেচ্ছা।

Nepal

Our Northern neighbour Nepal is passing through a historic period of time. After quite a protracted movement, the Maoists have come to power through an election. Now nobody will be able to say that "power to them has come through the barrel of a gun!" This verdict is undoubtedly the result of the deprivation caused by the monarchy in Nepal. Since there was no allegations of rigging in the election, we may safely take this verdict as the will of the people of Nepal.

King Gyanendra's ascent to the throne of Nepal was under very mysterious circumstances. His predecessor, King Virendra Vir Vikram Shah Dev (The ceremonial name of King Virendra) was assassinated along with his entire family right inside his palace, one day! This incident caused a lot of resentment in the minds of ordinary people of Nepal but they were not allowed to speak out. There is no doubt that these events are also partly responsible for the downfall of Gyanendra.

What ever be the reasons, Today there is a new Sunrise on the Nepalese horizon. We prey for Peace and Prosperity for the people of Nepal in the days to come and wish them all our very best.

জওহরলাল নেহেরুর অনেক অদূরদর্শীতা এবং হঠকারীতার মধ্যে চীনের সাথে তিব্বত নিয়ে সমঝোতাও একটি ।

কমিউনিস্ট চীন কখনোই বিশ্বাসযোগ্য কাজ করে না । যেমন নিজেদের শ্রমিক দরদী বলে, শ্রমিকদের প্রায় বন্ডেড লেবার করে রেখে সস্তায় পণ্য উত্পাদন করে বিশ্বের বাজার ধরে । আমেরিকান সাম্রাজ্যবাদের কথা তারস্বরে চিত্কার করে প্রচার করে নিজেদের লাল সাম্রাজ্য বিস্তারের লক্ষ্যে সদা সচেষ্ট ।

সম্প্রতি তিব্বতে নিপীড়ন এবং হত্যালীলা চালালেও নেহেরুর উত্তরসূরী কংগ্রেস সরকার ও চীনের গুণমুগ্ধ লেজুড়, বাংলার সিপিএম দলের থেকে একটিও প্রতিবাদসুলভ কথা শোনা যায় নি ! ঠিক তিয়ান আন মেন স্কোয়ারের মত !

Tibet is the result of one of the many mishandlings of Jawaharlal Nehru.

Communist China can never be trusted. They claim to be friends of the working class but produce and sell products at extra ordinary low costs to capture World Market by making their workers work as bonded labours. They keep orchestrating about American Imperialism but are always firm in their expansionist intentions.

The Indian Govt led by Congress, the rightful owners of the legacy of Nehru and the CPIM, who have always remained a stooge of the Chinese, utterred not a word of protest after the recent incident in Tibet and the killings of civilians. Just like Tian-an-men square!

সকলেই জানেন যে ব্রিটিশ আমলে পরাধীন ভারতে সর্বোচ্চ শাসককে বড়লাট বলে অভিহিত করা হ’ত ভারতে ব্রিটিশ আমল শুরু হয়েছিল ১৭৫৭ সালে পলাশীর যুদ্ধে সিরাজদৌল্লার পরাজয়ের পর থেকে এবং শেষ হয় ১৯৪৭ সালের ১৪ই আগষ্ট ভারতের স্বাধীনতা প্রাপ্তির ক্ষণে একই সময়ে ভারত দ্বিখণ্ডিত হয় ভারত ও পাকিস্তান এই দুটো রাষ্ট্রের সৃষ্টি হয় এই সব ঐতিহাসিক কাহিনি সবারই জানা ১৭৫৭ থেকে ১৯৪৭ সাল পর্যন্ত ১৯০ বছর সময়ের মধ্যে প্রথম ১০০ বছর ভারত শাসিত হয়েছে ইষ্ট ইণ্ডিয়া কোম্পানীর দ্বারা এবং বাকি সময় প্রত্যক্ষ ব্রিটিশ পার্লামেন্ট দ্বারা তবে ঐ শাসনের বিশেষ প্রভেদ ছিল না প্রজাপীড়ন সমানভাবেই চলেছে যাই হোক এই দীর্ঘ সময়ে ব্রিটিশ সম্ভ্রান্ত বংশের মানুষেরা বড়লাট হিসেবে এসে ভারত শাসন করে আবার ফিরে গেছেন নির্দিষ্ট সময়সীমা বলে কিছু ছিল বলে মনে হয় না তবে বেশিরভাগ বড়লাটই ৫/৬ বছর কাজ করেছেন এদেশে কয়েকজন কিছু বেশিদিন ছিলেন আবার কয়েকজন বে শ কম সময় কাজ করেছেন এর মধ্যে কোন কোন বড়লাট কিছু কিছু ভাল কাজ করেছেন বেশিরভাগই গতানুগতিকের গণ্ডি পার হতে পারেন নি ভারতে বড়লাটগিরি করার পরে অধিকাংশই হারিয়ে গেছেন পরে বিখ্যাত হয়ছেন এমন বড়লাটের দেখা পাওয়া যায় নি আমরা ইতিহাসে লর্ড বেন্টিঙ্কের কথা পড়েছি এই ভদ্রলোক কিছু ভালো কাজ করেছেন যেমন ঠগী দমন এই মুহুর্তে আর কিছু মনে পড়ছে না এই দীর্ঘ সময়ের মধ্যে একজন বড়লাটই ভারতে মারা যান বড়লাট মেয়ো গিয়েছিলেন আন্দামান ও নিকোবর পরিদর্শনে সেখানে শের আলি নামে এক কয়েদি তাকে হত্যা করে লর্ড মেয়ো গিয়েছিলেন দক্ষিণ আন্দামানের সবচেয়ে উঁচু পাহাড় মাউন্ট হ্যারিয়েট প্রদর্শনে তাঁর নেমে আসার সময় শের আলি ছুরি নিয়ে বড়লাটের উপর ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ে লর্ড মেয়োকে নিয়ে তক্ষুনি এক মোটরলঞ্চ রসদীপের দিকে ধাবমান হয় মনে হয় মাঝপথেই তাঁর মৃত্যু হয় এই ঘটনা ঘটেছিল ১৮৭২ সালের ৮ই ফেব্রয়ারি

ভারতের একটি প্রতিবেশী দেশ। যদিও সে দেশ পরাধীন নয়, তবু মানুষের অধিকার বহুকাল আগেই সে দেশেরই মিলিটিরি হস্তগত করে নিয়েছে । তাই সে দেশের মানুষ আজ পরাধীন না হয়েও অধীকার-হীন । বহুবার চেষ্টা চলেছে যাতে মিলিটারি শাসকদের সরিয়ে ফেলার কিন্তু তা সফল হয় নি । তাঁদের নেত্রী আং সান সূ কী -র গৃহ বন্দী হয়ে থাকার কথা সর্বজনবিদিত । সম্ভবত এত দিনে তিনি বোধহয় সব চেয়ে বেশী দিন গৃহবন্দী থাকা মানুষদের মধ্যে অন্যতম । ১৯৯৯ সালে তাঁর মরণাপন্ন স্বামীর সঙ্গেও তাঁকে শেষ সময় দেখা করতে দেওয়া হয় নি । তাঁর ছেলেদের সঙ্গেও তাঁর দীর্ঘকাল দেখা করতে দেয়নি বর্বর মিলিটারি শাসক । তিনি ১৯৯১ সালে তাঁর নোবেল শান্তি পুরস্কারটিও গিয়ে গ্রহণ করতে পারেন নি । আমরা অনেকেই জানি না যে তিনি দিল্লীর লেডি শ্রীরাম কলেজ থেকেই ১৯৬৪ সালে স্নাতক হন ! সাধারণ মানুষের দুর্দশার কথা আর বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না । সম্প্রতি আবার সেখানে গণতন্ত্র পুনরুদ্ধারের আন্দোলন শুর্ হয়েছে । এবার বৌদ্ধ সন্ন্যাসীরা অগ্রণী ভূমিকা নিয়েছেন । ফলে গত দু তিন দিনে শত শত সন্ন্যাসীকে জেলে পুরেছে সেদেশের জঙ্গী সরকার ।

আমরা এই অমানবিক কার্যকলাপের তীব্র নিন্দা করছি এবং আমরা চাই যত শিঘ্র সম্ভব সে দেশে গণতন্ত্র প্রতিষ্ঠা হোক । আমরা ভার সরকারের কাছে অনুরোধ করছি তাঁরা যেন আর নীরব দর্শক না থেকে দৃঢ় পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করেন ।

Myanmar (Burma)

Burma or Myanmar is one of our neighbouring countries. Though it is an Independent country the people have no democratic rights as the Army had taken over the power for a very long time. Several attempts to regain democracy fave not materialized. The military, very shamelessly refused to hand over power to the elected leader Aung San Suu kyi in 1990. She is under house arrest and detention since then. She is perhaps one of the persons to be detained for the longest period of time. In 1991 she was not allowed to accept the Nobel Peace Prize. She even was not allowed to see her dying husband in 1999. She is even not allowed to meet her sons by this regime. Many do not know that she graduated from Lady Sriram College in New Delhi in 1964!

Recently the pro democracy movement has again picked up. This time the Buddhist Monks are in the fore front. As usual the Military junta has come down harshly to quell the movement. During the past 2 or 3 days hundreds of monks and civilians have been put behind the bars.

We strongly protest against these inhuman actions of the Ruling Military govt of Myanmar. We also urge the Govt of India to take necessary action instead of being mute spectator.

Indian Idols

First of all we congratulate Prashant Tamang of Kolkata Police and a resident of Darjeeling for becoming the New Indian Idol.

But here are a few thoughts that we should not ignore any more.
The system adopted for these competitions over the electronic media is undoubtedly a form of very artistic Show-business at its zenith! They also bring in very distinguished panel of judges also for judging the participants. The Anchor is also a great performer in his own right. In fact almost every thing is good! So what is it that is not so good?
The judgment is not done by the Judges! They are decided by the general public by means of SMS messages! the participant getting the highest numbers of SMSs in his favour is declared the winner. Very Democratic too!
While this may seem very good on the surface, the under currents that follow in parts of the country where regionalism is the main political platform, is alarming.
In order to get their local boy or girl the winner's tittle, people tend to become hysteric! The whole community takes upon themselves the duty to send maximum SMSs at any cost. Every one around is compelled to use his mobile set to keep sending SMSs during that time. Even outsiders such as tourists are approached to join this game!
Recently they even got down to damaging mobile telephone communication Towers and installations in Darjeeling district of West Bengal because the network was down during one such event! We have first hand reports from people, who want to remain anonymous, working in various offices of North East States where people were forced to send such SMSs.
While mostly it may be dismissed as ordinary people's expression of love for their own boys or girls, it does not always remain that way. After some time it whips up sentiments of regionalism which invariably grows to become the Dreaded Tiger it always is, if not tamed in infancy. We should be proud of who we are but that feeling must not reach such levels when we start discrimination and intimidation on that basis and start feeling and propagating hatred for people who are not of our kind!

We suggest that these competitions be judged by judges only, who are experts in these fields. We understand that such events are the brain children of various Mobile companies, who stands to gain maximum from them. They may have started these events in right earnest but now a lot of ordinary people and this country stands to loose 'harmony' and 'peaceful co-existence'.
On the other hand the contestants are really a very talented lot of youth and we do not see how and why they should require the support of their community to win some competition. They can and should win on their own accord. We want this SMS business to be stopped for such competitions. Producers of these events should be happy to earn by ways and means adopted for making other TV programs. The zeal to earn more is good. But when zeal is overtaken by greed, you are bound to harm a lot of people, including yourself !

রাম সেতু

ভারত ও শ্রী লঙ্কার মধ্যে রয়েছে রামেশ্বরমে রাম সেতু । যার আর এক নাম Adam's Bridge । ভারত সরকার সেই সেতুর খানিকটা কেটে বাদ দিয়ে সেখান দিয়ে জাহাজ চলাচলের জন্য সেতু সমুদ্রম প্রজেক্ট নামে একটি উদ্যোগ নিয়েছেন । যদিও এই সেতু মুসলিম এবং খৃষ্টানদের কাছেও ধর্মের দিক দিয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, মূলতঃ হিন্দুদের কাছ থেকেই এই প্রজেক্টের বিরোধিতা করা হচ্ছে । বিরোধী দল বি.জে.পি. তো এমন এক রাজনৈতিক অস্ত্র হাতে পেয়ে যার পর নাই উল্লসিত এবং পুনরুজ্জিবিত বোধ করছে! তার উপর কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের তরফে সুপ্রীম কোর্টে দায়ের করা হলফনামায় তারা বলেছিলেন যে রাম ঐতিহাসিক চরিত্র নয় এবং রাম সেতু রামচন্দ্র তৈরী করেছিলেন, এমন কোনো প্রমাণ নেই । যদিও ভোট চলে যাওয়ার ভয়ে পরদিনই সেই হলফনামা ফিরিয়ে নেওয়া হয়েছে, ক্ষতি যা হবার হয়ে গেছে ।

Ram Setu

India and Sri Lanka are physically joined by a bridge called Ram Setu or the Adam's Bridge. The govt of India has taken up a project called Setu Samudram Project, where a portion of the said bridge will be removed by dredging to create a shipping lane for ships to pass from East coast to west cost of India and vice versa, shortening the distance by about 400 miles. Even though this strip of land mass is revered by Muslims and Christians, mainly the Hindus have objected to this destruction of the Ram Setu. The Congress led central govt had given a sworn affidavit in the Supreme Court of India that Ram is not a Historical character and that there is no evidence to believe that Ram had built that bridge! Realising that they have effectively managed to alienate the majority Hindu community, they withdrew that affidavit. But the damage was done! The main opposition party BJP who were busy in internal squabbles and totally devoid of any Issue for the forthcoming elections, suddenly got a shot in the arm!

ভূতপূর্ব প্রধাণমন্ত্রী এবং পাকিস্তান মুসলিম লীগ নেতা নওয়াজ শরিফ আজ স্বদেশে ফিরলেন সাত বছরের নির্বাসনের পর । তাঁর উড়ানের নম্বর ছিল পি.অই.এ ৭৮৬, যা কিনা ইসলাম ধর্মাবলম্বীদের জন্য সব চেয়ে পবিত্র সংখ্যা । আমরা আশা রাখতেই পারি যে এই সংখ্যা দিয়ে যে যাত্রা শুরু হল তার পরিনতি ভাল হবেই পাকিস্তানের পক্ষে এবং স্থায়ী গণতান্ত্রিক সমৃদ্ধ পাকিস্তান ভারতের প্রতিবেশী হিসেবে আমাদের কাছে অনেক বেশী কাম্য । আমরা সবাই জানি যে শরিফ সাহেবকে জেনারেল মুশার্রফ নানাভাবে তাঁর নির্বাসনের ব্যাবস্থা করে দেশের শাসনভার হস্তগত করেছিলেন । আজ ইসলামাবাদ বিমানবন্দরে, নওয়াজ শরিফের অবতরণকালে, কাঁদানে গ্যাস ও লাঠি দুইই চলেছে! আমাদের পশ্চিমের প্রতিবেশীর ইতিহাসে আজ একটি নতুন অধ্যায়ের সূচনা হল তাতে কোনো সন্দেহ নেই । অন্য দল পাকিস্তান পিপলস পার্টির নেত্রী বেনজীর ভুট্টোও শিঘ্রই দেশে ফিরবেন । তিনি নাকি জেনারেল মোশার্রফের সাথেই কি এক বোঝাপড়াও করেছেন বলে শোনা যাচ্ছে!

এই স্বাধীনতা দিবসের সময় একটা কথা বার বার উঠে আসছিল । তা হল এই যে, যদিও পাকিস্তান এক দিন আগে স্বাধীনতা লাভ করে, ভারতের ৬০ বছরে স্বাধীনতার বয়স হলেও পাকিস্তানের স্বাধীনতা নাকি মোটে ৩০ বছরের! কারণ বাকি ৩০ বছর সে দেশ মিলিটারি শাসনের অধীনে ছিল । ভারতে শত অন্যায় অবিচার থাকলেও একটা গণতান্ত্রিক পরিবেশ সবসময় থেকেই গেছে । এদেশে শাসনভারের হস্তান্তর নির্বিঘ্নেই হয়ে থাকে ভোটে জিতে আসার পর (অনেক ক্ষেত্রে কেমন ভাবে ভোটে জয় হয় সেটা অবশ্য তর্কের বিষয় নিঃসন্দেহে!) । পাকিস্তানে সেটা যেন কল্পনার অতীত । একবার তো গণতন্ত্র প্রতিষ্ঠার উদ্যোগে নির্বাচনের পরে হস্তান্তরের কথা উঠতেই এমন পরিবেশের সৃষ্টি হল যে দেশটাই ভাগ হয়ে গেল! তাই এবার পাকিস্তানে কি হয় তা আমরা সতর্কতার সঙ্গে পর্যবেক্ষণ করছি ।

ইতিহাসের এক দুঃখজনক ঘটনা-প্রবাহের জেরে যে দেশকে প্রতিবেশী রাষ্ট্র বলতে বাধ্য হচ্ছি, তা আসলে আমাদেরই দেশের এক অংশ হবার কথা ছিল । আরও পরে, পূবে বাংলাদেশ হয়েছে যা ও আর আমাদের দেশের অংশ নয় । ভাবের ঘোরে থাকলে তো চলে না, তাই বাস্তবে ফিরি । সেখানে এই তিন প্রতিবেশী দেশ নিজের নিজের সত্তা নিয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে । তবুও এই তিন দেশেই এখনও এমন অনেক মানুষ আছেন যাঁরা এখনও মনে প্রাণে বিশ্বাস করেন যে ভবিষ্যতে কখনও এই তিন দেশ মিলে মিশে এক হবেই!

বাংলাদেশ নিয়ে আলোচনা আমরা বাংলাদেশের পাতায় চালিয়ে যাবো । এই পাতায় পাকিস্তান নিয়ে যত আলোচনা, চলুক । পাকিস্তান নিয়ে আপনাদের যা কিছু বক্তব্য এথানে comment করে লিখে যান । আপনাদের বক্তব্য শুধু এই post এর বিষয়তেই সীমাবদ্ধ রাখার পক্ষপাতি আমরা নই । আপনারা comment এর মাধ্যমে পাকিস্তান সম্বন্ধে নতুন কোনো বিষয় উত্থাপন করে আলোচনা শুরু করে চালিয়ে যেতেই পারেন ।

Pakistan

The Deposed Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League - N leader Mr. Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan this morning after living in exile for 7 years. His flight number was PIA 786 which incidentally is the most sacred number to the Muslims! Thus we may surely expect that the journey which is started with this sacred number is bound to benifit Pakistan. A prosperous and democratic Pakistan will always be more acceptable to India as a good neighbour. We all know how Gen. Musharraf had planned the ouster of Mr. Nawaz Sharif while assuming power. Today, Islamabad Airport witnessed Lathi Charge and Tear gas shells during his arrival! However there is no doubt that this is the begining of a new chapter in the life of our western neighbour! The leader of PPP Begam Benazir Bhutto is also due to return soon. She is said to have entered into an understanding with Gen. Musharraf!

During the last Independence day, people had been discussing that even though Pakistan got independence one day before India, India's Independence has been foe 60 years while Pakistan's only for 30 years. For rest of the 30 years, Pakistan was under the Military rule! Even with all its mis-rules and in-justice in India, the democratic environment has remained intact. After winning in the elections in this country, the transfer of power has always been peaceful. This is un thinkable in Pakistan! During one such transfer of power after elections, the country itself got broken into two! That is why we are cautiously observing - what ever happens in Pakistan!

Due to a very sad chapter in our common history, The nation, we are forced to call our neighbour today, was supposed to be just another part of our own country! Much later we had Bangladesh to our east, which was again not a part of our country! There is no use in becoming so immotional now and must accept the truth that there are three independent countries, each with its distinct individuality. Still there are many of us living in all three countries who firmly believe that some day these countries will unite!

নেতাজী সুভাষচন্দ্র বসু প্রকৃত অর্থে অমর । নেতা হিসেবে শৌর্যে-বীর্যে ভারতবাসীর কাছে তাঁর এক বিশেষ স্থান আছে । তিনিই গান্ধীজীকে Father of the Nation বলে প্রথম সম্বোধন করেন । গান্ধীজীর সাথে তাঁর মতাদর্শের ব্যাবধান সত্বেও তিনি স্পষ্ট করে দিয়েছিলেন যে আজাদ হিন্দ ফৌজ দিল্লী জয়ের পর জাতীয় কংগ্রেসের নেতৃত্বের হাতেই ভবিষ্যতে ভারতের ক্ষমতা অর্পণ করবেন । পাকিস্তানের জনক কৈদ-এ-আজম্ মহম্মদ আলী জিন্না নেতাজীকেই বিশ্বাস করতেন ।

ধর্মের ভিত্তিতে দেশভাগের ফলে ভারতের দুই বৃহত্তম সম্প্রদায়ের, হিন্দু ও মুসলমান, মধ্যে যে অবিশ্বাস ও বৈরিতার সূচনা হয়ে গেছে তা আজও আমরা দূর করতে পারিনি । মাঝে মাঝেই নানান জায়গায় দাঙ্গা-হাঙ্গামার মধ্য দিয়ে তা প্রকাশ পায় । ভারতে যে সময় হিন্দু-মুসলমানের বিভেদ তুঙ্গে উঠে দেশভাগ আসন্ন, ঠিক সে সময়ে আজাদ হিন্দ বাহিনীতে টিকিধারী হিন্দু, অন্য সব বর্ণ-জাতি-ধর্মের সৈনিকদের পাশাপাশশি বসে আহার করার ছবি দেখতে পাই । তাই একথা জোর দিয়ে বলা যায় যে স্বাধীনতার মুহুর্তে নেতাজী যদি উপস্থিত থাকতে পারতেন তাহলে ভারতের ইতিহাস অন্যভাবে লেখা হোতো এ বিষয় কোন সন্দেহ নেই । দেশভাগ এড়ানোও হয়তো সম্ভব হোতো ।

ভারতের দুর্ভাগ্য এই যে ভারতের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের দুই বীর সৈনিকের কোনো মৃত্যু দিবস আমাদের জানা নেই । প্রথম জন ছিলেন ১৮৫৭ সালের ভারতের প্রথম স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের নায়ক নানা সাহেব । সেই যুদ্ধের পর ইংরেজরা তাঁর কোনো হদিস পান নি । বহুদিন ধরে মানুষ অপেক্ষা করে ছিলেন কবে তিনি ফিরে আসবেন । অনেকের মতে তিনি নাকি নেপালে চলে যেতে সমর্থ হয়েছিলেন ।

অন্য জন নেতাজী । যাঁর অন্তর্ধ্যান কে ঘিরে রহস্যের সমাধান আজও আমরা করে উঠতে পারি নি ।

অনেক সন্দেহ, অনেক চাপানো উতর, অনেক জল ঘোলা হবার পরেও এই বীরের শেষটা এখনও রহস্যাবৃত । ভারত সরকারের একাংশ মনে হয় যেন চান - এই রহস্য এমনই থাকুক!

Netaji

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is truely Immortal. His bravery and leadership during our freedom struggle has given him a special place in the hearts of Indians. It was he who called Gandhiji as "The father of the nation". Even with his differences of opinion with Gandhiji, he had declared that the Azad Hind Fauj would hand over the power to the leadership of Congress in Delhi after reaching there. The father of Pakistan, Qaid-e aazm Mr Mohammed Ali Jinnah used to trust him more than any one else in the Congress.

The rift between the two main communities, namely Hindus and Muslims, which was caused due to the leaders playing in to hands of the British with their "divide and rule policy" leading to the partition of India, is yet to be bridged. Very often it flares up in the form of riots. When this animosity was at its height during the years prior to the partion of the country, we have seen photos of caste Hindu soldiers eating meals with soldiers of other castes and religions in the Azad Hind Fauj, which had soldiers from all religions and castes.

We strongly feel that had Netaji been in India during that time, India's history would have been different. Pehaps we could have avoided the Partition itself.

It is our mis-fortune that we do not know the dates of demise of two of our great leaders of freedom struggle. First is Nana Saheb, the hero of the first war of India's independence in 1857(celebration of its 150th year is in progress). The British never found out about him after the war. His followers waited for him to come back for a very very long time. Many believed that he had gone over to Nepal.

The other leader is Netaji. We still have not been able to dispel the mistery of his diappearance in 1945. It appears that some in central govt. do not want the truth to come out.

ভারতের খুচরা বাজার দখল

দেশী ও বিদেশী পুঁজিপতিরা বেশ কিছুদিন যাবত ভারতের খুচরা বাজারের দিকে নজর দিয়েছেন । বিদেশী বানিজ্য সংস্থাগুলি দেশী পুজিপতিদের হাত ধরে একে একে ঢুকছেন দেশে । যেমন আমেরিকার ওয়ালমার্ট ঢুকে গেছে ভারতীর হাত ধরে । দেশী রিলায়েন্সও এ রাজ্যে নিজেদের ব্যাবসা বিস্তার করতে সবে শুরু করেছিলেন । কিন্তু শাসক জোটের ফরওয়ার্ড বল্ক দলের আন্দোলনের ফলে, যাতে প্রচুর রিলায়েন্স এর দোপান পাট ভাভচুর করা হয়, তারা সম্প্রতি জানিয়েছেন যে তাঁরা আপাতত থামছেন ।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী চান যে তারা এ রাজ্যে থেকে যান । কলকাতার বহু মানুষ চান এরা থাকুন । যাতে তারা বিদেশের মত শিতাতপ চকচকে দোকানে, চকচকে প্যাকেটে, এমন কি চকচকে দোকানদারের কাছ থেকে জিনিষ কেনা কাটা করার সুযোগ পাবেন ! এখন আবার বেশ খানিকটা কম দামেও! শপিং মলের অভিজ্ঞতায় তারা বেশ মুগ্ধ ! একটু খোঁজ নিলেই দেখা যাবে যে অনেক পাড়ার মুদি দোকানদারদের নাভিশ্বাস এরই মধ্যে উঠে গেছে । বহু ঝাঁপ বন্ধ হবার আর দেরী নেই ।

Capturing India's Retail Markets

Foreign and Indian Investors had been eying the Indian Retail Markets for quite some time. Many of the foreign Retailers have entered the Indian Markets as partners of some Indian investoe or the other. For example Walmart has come to India via Bharati. And Reliance had started opening their chain in West Bengal. But due to the violent agitation of the Forward Block, a constituent of the Left Front ruling qualition govt, they have decided to stop for the moment.

The Chief Minister wants them to stay. A lot of people in Kolkata want them to stay. So that, like the foreign developed countries, they have the opportunity to buy things from air-conditioned markets, in beautiful packets, from beautiful shopkeepers! Specially when they are offering things at a cheaper price, for the moment! They are very pleased with the experience of the shopping Malls! You may have noticed that a lot of small shopkeepers, grocers, are finding it very difficult to compete with these giant retailers. It will not be long before many of them are forced to pull down their shutters.

আমাদের প্রতিবেশী রাষ্ট্র । একটি ইসলাম ধর্মীয় রাষ্ট্র হয়েও যথেষ্ট গণতান্ত্রিক । উন্নতিশীল দেশগুলির অবস্থা নজরে রাখলে বাংলাদেশ অবশ্যই একটি গণতন্ত্র । যদিও সে দেশে কি হচ্ছে না হচ্ছে তা সম্পূর্ণ তাঁদের আভ্যন্তরীণ ব্যাপার, তবুও আমাদের সাথে তাঁদের যে দীর্ঘ সীমানা রয়েছে তার ভিতর দিয়ে অনেক কিছুই আমাদের দেশে প্রবেশ করে আমাদের জীবনযাত্রাকে প্রভাবিত করে । তার মধ্যে যেমন অতি উত্কৃষ্ট সাংস্কৃতিক আদান-প্রদান, পদ্মার ইলিশের স্বর্গীয় আস্বাদনের দিক রয়েছে তেমনই রয়েছে ভারতবর্ষের নানা স্থানে ঘটে যাওয়া আতঙ্কের উত্স । তাই বাংলাদেশে যা ঘটে যাচ্ছে তাতে আমরা, ভারতের জনগণ হিসেবে, কিছু না করতে পারলেও আগ্রহী একশো ভাগ । আমরা চাই আমাদের এই প্রতিবেশী মিত্র রাষ্ট্রটি একটি সুখি ও সমৃদ্ধ জনগণের সকল আশা আকাঙ্খা পুরণকারী কল্যাণকারী রাষ্ট্রে উন্নিত হোক । বাংলাদেশ যত সমৃদ্ধ হবে, তাঁর জনগণ তত সুখ ও শান্তিতে থাকার সুযোগ পাবে । আশাকরা যায় যে এমন একটি সমৃদ্ধ রাষ্টের প্রতিবেশী রাষ্ট্র ভারতও তাতে উপকৃত হবে ।

২০০৬ সালের অক্টোবর মাস থেকে সেখানে একটি তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকার শাসন করছেন । তাঁদের কাজ ছিল, ৯০ দিনের মধ্যে একটি সুষ্ঠ নির্বাচন সংগঠিত করে জনগণের নির্বাচিত প্রতিনিধিদের হাতে ক্ষমতা তুলে দেওয়া । সেই সময় সীমা অতিক্রান্ত হয়েছে বহুকাল আগেই । খবরে প্রকাশ এই সরকারের প্রতি সেনা বাহিনীর সমর্থন জোরালো । এবং সরকার নাকি এখন বাংলাদেশ থেকে ভ্রষ্টাচার দূর করার কাজে হাত দিয়েছেন । এই কাজ করতে গিয়ে, তাঁরা দেশের প্রধাণ রাজনৈতিক দলগুলির নেতৃস্থানীয়দের নানান অপকর্মের উপর মামলা-মকদ্দমা করে তাঁদের শাস্তি দেবার বন্দোবস্ত করছেন । মাঝে এমন ও দেখা গিয়েছিল যে তাঁরা চাইছিলেন যে বড় বড় রাজনৈতিক নেতা নেত্রীরা যাতে দেশ ছেড়ে চলে যান । সেই অবস্থান থেকে তাঁরা খানিকটা পিছিয়ে এসেছেন সম্ভবত কিছু বহুর্শক্তির প্রভাবে! কিছু প্রশ্ন উঠেই আসে তা হল এই যে :-

১। যে কাজের জন্য তত্ত্ববধায়ক সরকারকে গদিতে বসানো হয়েছে (তারা নিজের জন প্রতিনিধিত্বের জোরে গদিতে বসেন নি) সেই ৯০ দিনে নির্বাচনের কি হল?

২। এটা কি ধরেই নিতে হবে যে যতদিন বাংলাদেশের জনগণের প্রতিনিধিদের হাতে ক্ষমতা থাকে, সেখানে বিচার ব্যবস্থা সঠিকভাবে কাজ করে না ?তাই দুটি রাজনৈতিক সরকারের ফাঁকে তত্ত্ববধায়ক সরকারকে এসে একটু correction করে দিতে হচ্ছে! তাই যদি হবে তাহলে এত কাঠখড় পুড়িয়ে এত খরচা করে একটি নির্বাচিত সরকার করার কি দরকার ? তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকার থাকলেই তো ভালো!

৩। প্রধাণ নেতানেত্রিদের দেশ থেকে বিতাড়িত করার ব্যাপারটার সঙ্গে পাকিস্তানের জেনারেল মুশার্রফ দ্বারা নওয়াজ শরিফ ও বেনজীর ভুট্টোকে দেশ-ছাড়া করার সাথে অনেক সাদৃশ্য লক্ষ্য করা যাচ্ছে না কি ?

৪। তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের বা তাদের পেছনে যারা আছেন, বিশেষ করে সেনা বাহিনীর অন্য কোনো পরিকল্পনা আছে কি ?

৫। আমরা বরাবর দেখে এসেছি যে বাংলাদেশের ভবিষ্যত্ নির্ধারণ করার পেছনে সে দেশের যুব সম্প্রদায় বড় ভূমিকা পালন করেন, যা কিনা আমাদের সকলেরই কাম্য । সম্প্রতি খবরে প্রকাশ সেই যুব সম্প্রদায় এখন ক্ষুব্ধ সেনাবাহিনীর উপর । দেশের নানাস্থানে কার্ফ্যু জারি করতে হয়েছিল । সেই যুবসমাজের চোখে এই সরকারের ভাবমূর্তি কেমন?

Should India go for Mag-lev Trains ?

In the 20th century the speed of our material progress was vastly accelerated by the increase in our speed of communication; the transport by air let us deliver things in hours, which earlier took days. In the later part of the century, the Internet helped us communicate even further. It is now possible to pay for the goods almost instantaneously, while we still take time to deliver the goods. Airplanes help us transport small goods faster, but not the elephants and heavy goods. In this article, we are considering alternatives to airplanes – Maglev Trains that can help mass transport of goods as well as personnel that provides services.Various countries have already invested in Maglev Trains or have been planning to do so. We need to find out whether India affords Maglev Trains and whether Maglev trains will reduce the cost and bottlenecks of transporting people and material in India to increase GDP of India. We would perhaps find that other developed and developing countries would invest in the infrastructure including Maglev Trains, and if that happens, it could be possible to have an alternative for air travel, in countries connected by land.In this paper, we have reproduced ideas of many veteran scholars to lead others to research further whether India should invest in this new technology that is promising to bring a revolution.Need for Faster Transport & Introduction to Maglev Trains .......

Sigmund Freud as a leader and science, in general, made us to believe that inter-course is performed by all animals, except the very primitive types, only to serve the purpose of birth of off-springs. This quality is instinctive and not created by the particular type of animal for their survival and happier living, like some animals, mainly man, has created on their own over and above the instinctive qualities.

Again we experience that if because of some reason, we have to act against or suppress or try to control our instinctive qualities, we become sad and regret for such actions inside ourselves, as in most such cases, we cannot .....

Thinking On National and Regional Feelings

Man is nothing but a type of an animal, specifically a mammal. He is basically individual and by instinct, gives first (if not only) priority to his own survival. But he is not physically and mentally capable to survive alone. So, with his intelligence, he has formed a collection where survival of one becomes easier with the help from the other and vice-versa. The core of collection is family and various families combined together, for the benefit of all these families and thereby the individuals in these families, forms a society. Now, basically man is fundamentally of two biological categories -male and female, who are both required for instinctive procreation. So, a male and a female and their off springs form the basic family. Now, this male, this female and their off springs are all individuals having their own mental make-up and other originalities. However, for the strength of the family, on which depends their own individual strength of survival, they have to adjust amongst themselves to create an individual identity for the family. The better this family-identity, the better their individual survival, as fellow feeling comes best from mutual understanding and adjustment. Now, the male and female come to this stage only when they are in the family way and not before. So, without much choice they have to adjust with each other for the sake of the family, which will be enhancing their chance of self-survival.

Self-realisation from various sides

From one side:

Nothing, like matter, space, time and energy, in the Universe is stationary or unchanged. Everything is continuously moving as well as changing. Moreover, it is said that possibly the Universe as a whole is expanding. It is also said the Universe is created from a big bang. So, there was something even before big bang. In any case whether the above two hypothesis can be considered as laws or not, we find everything in the Universe are interrelated with each other. So, there must be a unified existence and all others are either part of it or have originated from it. I am also a part of the Universe and have also originated in the Universe. So, my existence is not a totally separate issue but a part of the total existence. There is also definite link in between my present existence and my past existence and there will be a definite link between my present existence and my future existence. So, my realisation about my self is, it is not separate but a part of the whole infinity with limited individuality.

While reading "Chirakumar Sabha"a play by the Nobel Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore, during my college days or a few years later, I noticed "Akhoy-babu" a character in that play, mentioning in the first Sabha, a meeting, that they would only discuss Literature in these Sabhas as scientific discussions were quite difficult since man did not know yet whether he was seeing direct or inverted. I consider Rabindra Nath to be quite enlightened in Science also. So, I started thinking and very soon realized what he said was true. The questions that arises from it....

স্বাধীনতার ৬০ বছর পর আমরা কোথায়, একটি স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে ? "স্বাধীন দেশ" এর প্রকৃত অর্থ কি ? "স্বাধীনতা"র ই বা অর্থ কি ? এই পারমাণবিক শক্তিধর দেশ ভারতের, যে ভারত রাষ্ট্র সংঘের নিরাপত্তা পরিষদের স্থায়ী আসন দাবী করছে, সেই ভারতের বহু জনপদে এই মুহুর্তে লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষ আছেন যাদের জীবন, জীবিকা, সংস্কৃতি, এই ভারত নামক স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্রেরই বিভিন্ন শাসকের অঙ্গুলিহেলনে, পরিসমাপ্তির অপেক্ষায় দিন গুনছে ! ওই সমস্ত বলির পাঠারূপী মানুষগুলোই কিন্তু এই শাসকদের সিংহাসনে বসিয়েছেন ! অনেক জ্ঞানী মানুষ বলছেন যে কিছু উন্নতি করতে হলে কিছু ত্যাগ স্বীকার করতে হয় ? ঠিক কথা, কিন্তু স্বাভাবিকভাবেই প্রশ্ন ওঠে, এই উন্নতির সংজ্ঞা কি ? তাদেরই কেন বার বার ত্যাগ স্বীকার করতে হবে, যাদের ত্যাগ করবার মত আর কিছুই অবশিষ্ট নেই, এই স্বাধীনতার ৬০ বছর পরেও ? স্বাধীনতার কোন অংশটি এদের কাছে পৌঁছেছে ? কেন আজও পৌঁছায় নি ? প্রশ্ন আরো ওঠে যে, যে রাজনৈতিক দলগুলি এই মানুষগুলির বন্ধু সেজে এই দেশে আত্মপ্রকাশ করেছে তাদের ভূমিকা কি ?

কিছু কাল আগেও শোনা যেতো যে গামীণ জীবনের মানের উন্নতি এবং ছোটো শহরের উন্নতি সাধন করে মহানগরের উদ্দেশ্যে মানুষের ঢল নামাকে প্রতিহত করা উচিত । সেই সব কথা আর শোনা যায়না কেন ? উন্নত দেশগুলি, যাদের জনসংখ্যা আমাদের তুলনায় নস্যি, তাদের নগরায়ণ-করে-উন্নতির-মডেল কি আমাদের দেশে কার্যকর করা উচিত ? আমরা কোথায় ভুল করছি ?

Where are we Indians as a free nation? What is the true meaning of Freedom? What does a Free Country mean? In this powerful country India, a Nuclear Power, a nation demanding a permanent seat at the Security Council of UNO, just as I write, there are Lacs(1Lac=100,000) of people whose lives, livelihoods and cultures are awaiting complete destruction and obliteration by a single nod from the various rulers of this very free India! Strangely, these very people, the sacrificial goats, were responsible for enabling these rulers to rule!

Many Intellectuals are saying that we must sacrifice some things in order to develop our country. Fair enough, but some questions keep cropping up! What is the meaning of this so called "Development"? And why each and every time, do only those have to sacrifice who have simply "Nothing", even after 60 years of Independence? Which part of "India's Freedom" have they received? Why hasn't it reached them till today? That brings us to the question - What is the role of those political parties, who are the so called champions of the "Have-nots"?

A few years ago, we could hear voices telling us about how we should improve the villages and small towns in order to stop the flow of population to our large cities and Metros. Why don't we get to hear about these plans any more now? Should the rapid-urbanisation-model of development adopted by many developed countries be adopted by us too? These countries have negligible population and associated problems, compared to us. Where are we going wrong?

DELHI HIGH COURT BOMB BLAST!

The terrorists have struk again. Yesterday, they detonated a bomb at Dehli High Court! They have threatened to bomb even the Supreme Court if Afzal Guru, the man to be hanged for Parliament Attack, is not spared the death sentence!

We as common citizen of this country are frustated to such an extent that we feel that Afzal Guru shuld be hanged immediately. Mr Manmohan Singh should try to stand on his own feet and take firm action. Right Now! Enough is enough!

We do not wants any talks, discussions, summits with Pakistan, Cricket matches and the other money making facilities for some interested parties! Any one taking up guns against common Indians on the streets must be treated as an invading enemy. Or else how shall the life of ordinary Indians be safeguarded? Do we not have the right to live in this country? What is the govt doing to protect us? They raid Baba Ramdeb's Camp at 2AM at night to hammer away sleeping men women and children! Just because they wanted the Govt to bring back the money kept in Swiss Banks! They can harrass the Anna Hazare movement leaders because they talked about stopping corruption!

Mr Manmohan Singh! Please do some thing to save the people who made you what you are today.

MUMBAI MASSACRE

We are shocked by the whole incident.

However we were not surprised!

With softies like Mr. Atal Behari Bajpeyi and Dr. Manmohan Singh ruling India for past 8 - 10 years, the people of the whole world have started believing that you can get away with anything by harming Indians inside or outside India, because there is nobody in charge here.

What were the Indian Polity doing since 1993 Mumbai Blasts?

Not a single person have been punished till date. No measures have been taken to ensure that 1993 was not repeated again. Alas! We had it again in a much deadlier form!

Why do the political parties, cutting across party lines, think that if they take any harsh measures against the terrorists then they will loose the vote bank?

We think it is an insult to self esteemed Muslims (because Muslims are under the scanner now) in India. During our 61 years of indepence, the Muslims have demonstrated their loyalty time and again. Why do we need them to prove it again and again, every day of their life in free India? Why do the political parties have no trust in them? Those who help the terrorists, let us take strong measures against them, with out bothering about what the rest of the coummunity will think or not. Because just like others they understand what is good and bad for us and the country. The Political Leaders must stop hobnobbing with those Mullahs and Imams who thrive on their followers having a feeling of perpetual insecurity in India.

Atalji did not allow our jawans to cross the LOC in Kashmir during the Kargil War in 1999 to demolish the training camps of Terrorists in Pakistan. That was a golden opportunity for us to break the backbone of Terrorism in Pakistan. We are paying the price now for that folly by bleeding in our homes, streets, everywhere.

Pakistan must Stop Running with the hare and Hunting with the Wolves!

On one hand they show that they are fighting International Terrorism. On the other hand they are the breeding ground of the deadliest forms of Terror!

If Pakistan does not stop nurturing such Frankesteins, then they have to pay the price for it eventually. Indians are a patient lot. But our patience is running out. We do not want to hear whether there are any renegade groups or rougue elements that are doing this mischief or not. We do not want to hear whether their bank accounts have been frozen or not.

The only Super Power USA must wake up and realise that they are ridding a ruthless tiger, that is Pakistan. That it is the main source of all International Terrorism. USA knowingly has been siding with Pakistan right from the birth of that nation. I still wonder how USA can bring itself to side with a Fanatic Dictatorship (Let us wait and watch how long the present democratic spell survives there! History is not very comforting!) against India, world's largest democracy!

The ordinary people of Pakistan, who are the same people as Indians and want peace like all of us, must gather courage and speak out against these Terrorist now. They must denouce this form of religious extremism. Otherwise they will have to pay a very heavy price for it.

News paper reports said that Kasav, the terrorist alive of the Mumbai Massacre, has confessed that they were instigated after seeing videos of anti muslim speeches delivered by Mr. Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders! We can not afford to alienate a big chunk of Indians by this sort of irresponsible actions. This must be stopped immediately.

Many, like Mr. Prakash Karat, The CPIM supremo, is of the opinion that it will not be wise to build a war like situation with Pakistan. But we ask, what is the situation now? What do they mean by War like situation? Which ingrediant of war is not there in the Mumbai Massacre?

It is better to finish this with a war than to live perpetually under fear of terrorism, death and war! The CPIM is that party in India that tries to play the Muslim card every day, every where! A party which swore by the revolution, once upon a time, has now got bogged down by all the negetive aspects of Indian democracy, minus all the positive ones !

Our security personnel must be given all the latest gadgets, arms and protective gears for their safety instead for letting them loose to their fates as in the case of Mr. Karkare, one the Martyrs of the Mumbai Massacre. His bullet proof jacket was of no use. Why cant they be given the same that are given to our PM or President?

आतंकवाद खत्म करो
हम आसाम के कार्बि आंलं जिले में हुए, हिन्दी-भाषीयों की जघन्य हत्या का कड़ी निंदा करते हैं । ये लोग बच्चों को कत्ल करने से भी नहीं चुँके ।

जनप्रतिनीधित्व करने वाले आसाम एवं भारत सरकार का यही कर्तव्य होना चाहिये कि वह इन आतंकवादीयों को जड़ से मिटा दें ।

हम बाकी देशवासीयों से प्रार्थना करते हैं की वे मन मे प्रतिशोध की भावना न रखे । हिंदी भाषी इलाका से होकर जानेवाली आसाम के रेलगाड़ीयों को रोक कर आसामी बोलनेवालों का मार पीट तथा हत्या न करें ।

हम यहां उल्लेख करना चाहते हैं की इन आतंकवादीयों का धर्म और निहतजनों का धर्म शायद एक हि था । इन आतंकवादियों तथा कशमीरी जंगीयों का धर्म या मजहब एक नहीं है । असल में आतंकवादी सिर्फ आतंकवादी होते हैं । उनका कोई मजहब नहीं होता । किसी जाती व घर्म को हम आतंकवादी नहीं कह सकते हैं ।

আতঙ্কবাদ বন্ধ হোক

অসমের কার্বি আংলং জেলায় হিন্দী ভাষীদের নির্মম হত্যার আমরা তীব্র প্রতিবাদ করছি । তারা নারী ও শিশুদের হত্যা করতেও পিছপা হয় নি ।

জনপ্রতিনীধির সরকার হিসেবে আসাম ও ভারত সরকারের উচিত এই আতঙ্কবাদীদের সমূলে বিনষ্ট করা । আমরা প্রার্থনা করছি যাতে বাকি দেশবাসী মনে প্রতিষোধের ভাবনা না রাখেন এবং হিন্দী ভাষী এলাকার ভেতর দিয়ে আসামের যাতায়াতকারী ট্রেন থামিয়ে, অসমিয়া ভাষীদের মারধোর ও হত্যা না করেন ।

এখানে উল্লেখ করা যেতে পারে যে এই আতঙ্কবাদীদের ধর্ম ও মৃতের ধর্ম, বোধ হয় একই ছিল । এই আতঙ্কবাদীদের ধর্ম আর কাশমীরী জঙ্গী বা মধ্য প্রাচ্যের জঙ্গীদের ধর্ম এক নয় । আসলে আতঙ্কবাদী শুধু আতঙ্কবাদীই । তাদের কোনো ধর্ম নেই । কোনো একটি জাতি বা ধর্ম কে কখনই আতঙ্কবাদী বলা অন্যায় হবে ।

Stop Terrorism

We are horrified at the killings of Hindi speaking people in Karbi Anglong district in Assam by the Terrorist Outfits. They did not even hesitate to kill women and children!

The Govt of Assam and India, both being elected representatives of the people and swearing by the Indian Constitution, should clamp down hard on the Terrorists till they are wiped out.We pray for wisdom to prevail in rest of the country and APPEAL TO ALL FOR NOT CARRYING OUT any retaliatory actions as before, by stopping trains from Assam passing through Hindi speaking states and butchering Assamese speaking people.

We feel it proper to mention here that the religion practiced by these terrorists is perhaps the same as those they killed and is not the same as those of the terrorists from J & K or the Middle-East. We believe that terrorists are just terrorists and they have no religion. Any particular community or religion should not be branded as terrorists.

বিকল্প চিকিত্সা ব্যবস্থা আজকের দিনে কতটা ফলদায়ক ?

প্রায় প্রতিটি সরকার এলোপ্যাথি চিকিত্সা ব্যবস্থাকেই মূল চিকিত্সা ব্যবস্হা হিসেবে মেনে নিয়েছেন । কোনো কোনো সরকার ছোট্ট করে হলেও, হোমিওপ্যাথি কে কিছু হাসপাতালে চিকিত্সা ব্যাবস্থার আওতায় এনেছেন । এছাড়া যে বহু রকমের চিকিত্সা ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে, পৃথিবীতে এবং ভারতবর্ষে, তা কিন্তু বেসরকারী উদ্যোগেই বেঁচে আছে । যেমন আয়ুর্বেদ, ইউনানী, চাঁদসী, আকুপাংচার, এবং আরো বহু ব্যবস্থা । সরকারী পৃষ্ঠপোষকতার অভাবে অনেক বিকল্প ব্যবস্হার মানডণ্ডের বিচারের কোন মাপকাঠিও নেই । ফলে অনেক ব্যবস্থাই এখন হাতুড়ে এবং অসত মানুষের লোক ঠকানোর উপায় ছাড়া আর কিছুই নয় । এর ফলে অনেক একদা-শ্রদ্ধেয়-চিকিত্সা ব্যবস্থা, সাধারণ মানুষের কাছে তার বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতা হারিয়েছে । তবুও দেখতে পাই যে যখন কোনো কঠিন ব্যাধির ক্ষেত্রে, যেমন ক্যানসার, এলোপ্যাথি চিকিত্সা-শেষে "আর কিছু করার নেই" বলে দিলেও তখন লোকে হোমিওপ্যাথি বা অন্যান্য চিকিত্সা করাতে শুরু করেন ।

তাই আধুনিক যুগে এই অন্যান্য বা বিকল্প চিকিত্সা ব্যবস্থার স্থান কি তা নিয়েই এই বিতর্ক সভা । এখানে আমরা চিকিত্সক, চিকিত্সা জগতের সাথে জড়িত মানুষ এবং সাধারণ মানুষের এই বিষয়ে কি ভাবনা চিন্তা, তা জানার আগ্রহ রাখছি । আপনাদের যদি কোনো অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে থাকে, তা জানালে আমাদের পাঠক মণ্ডলী বিশেষভাবে উপকৃত হবেন । আপনাদের কথা এই পাতায় COMMENT করে জানান ।

How effective are Alternative Medincine Systems Today?

Almost all the govts have accepted Allopathy as the main stream of treatment in their hospitals. Some govts though, have introduced Homeopathy in some of their hospitals in a small way. Besides these, there are many more systems in the world and in India, such as Ayurveda, Unani, Chandshi, Accupuncture etc. that are still thriving on their own. In the absence of govermental patronage, many of these systems have no means of proper training and certification procedures. Therefore they have become tools in the hands of many unscrupulous persons and quacks to cheat people and make money. Thus many of the one-time-respectable treatment systems have fallen from grace and ordinary people's trust. Still we see that in cases of Complicated diseases such as Cancer etc, people start alternative medicines after Allopathy system treatment is finished or when they are told that there is nothing more to be done.

That is why we have started this discussion on the status of Alternative Medicine Systems in Modern world.Here we invite Doctors, people connected with Medical profession or volunteers and the ordinary people to put down their thoughts as COMMENTS. আমরা অন্ধ্রপ্রদেশের হায়দ্রাবাদে লেখিকা তসলিমা নাসরিনের উপর এম-আই-এম দলের বিধায়ক ও সমর্থক দ্বারা, একটি প্রেস কনফারেনস এ, আক্রমণ করার ঘটনার তীব্র প্রতিবাদ করছি ।

তসলিমা নাসরিনের লেখা কারও পছন্দ হতে পারে, না ও হতে পারে । কিন্তু ভারতের মাটিতে দাঁড়িয়ে তাঁর নিজের মতামত ব্যক্ত করার অধিকার আছে । আবার, যাঁরা তার কথা পছন্দ করছেন না তাঁদেরও অধিকার রয়েছে প্রতিবাদ করার । কিন্তু এভাবে সাংবাদিক সম্মেলনে তাঁর উপর আক্রমণ, কোনো সভ্য দেশে, কোনো লেখকের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ করার উপায় হতে পারে না । এখানে বলা ভাল যে একাধিক বার তিনি বলেছেন যে হজরত মহম্মদকে অবমাননা তিনি করেন নি । আর একজন নারীর প্রতি এ রকম আচরণ ইসলাম ধর্ম কখনও সমর্থন করে না

We may like or dislike what Taslima Nasrin writes. But she has the right to speak standing on Indian soil. Again, those who do not like her writtings also have a right to protest against what she says. But attacking her can not be the way of such protests. It is worth mentioning here that Taslima Nasrin has always said that she has never disrespected Prophet Mohammed. Also Islam religion never supports such attack on women.

"বন্ ধ" এর রাজনীতি

ভারতের মত গণতন্ত্রে "বন্ ধ" মানুষের হাতে একটি হাতিয়ার নিজের ক্ষোভ ও প্রতিবাদ জানানোর, শাসকের বিরুদ্ধে অথবা কোনো অশুভ শক্তির বিরুদ্ধে । বলাবাহুল্য, এই হাতিয়ার বিরোধীদের ব্যবহার করার কথা । তবে কোনো অশুভ বা বহির্র্শক্তির বা কোনো মর্মান্তিক অঘটন বা মানবতা বিরোধী কার্যকলাপ ইত্যাদির বিরুদ্ধের শাসক দলও বন্ ধ ডাকতে পারে, যদিও বিষয়টি তর্ক সাপেক্ষ । কিন্তু বিগত ৩০ বছর ধরে আমরা দেখে আসছি যে প্রতি বছর নিয়ম করে পশ্চিম বঙ্গের শাসক দল, সরকারী বা তাঁদের শ্রমিক সংঘটনের বকলমে বন্ ধ ডোকে আসছেন । গুজরাটের মোদী সরকার বা কেন্দ্রে বিজেপি সরকার ইত্যাদির বিরুদ্ধে বন্ ধ মেনে নেওয়া যায় । কিন্তু অসংঘটিত ক্ষেত্রের শ্রমিকদের জন্য ডাকা, ৮ই অগাস্ট ২০০৭ এ CITU র ডাকা বন্ ধ টি নিয়ে মনে প্রশ্ন জাগে । এটিও নাকি কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের নীতির বিরূদ্ধে ! আমাদের প্রশ্ন এই যে পশ্চিম বঙ্গে ৩০ বছর যে শাসক, তাঁর তো শ্রমিকদের সমস্যার প্রতিকার করা উচিত ছিল, বন্ ধ না ডেকে । আর কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার দাঁড়িয়ে আছে এখানকার শাসক দলের সমর্থনের জোরেই । এই সরকারের সমস্ত অপকর্মের "মাছ" বর্তমান কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের "শাক" দিয়েই প্রায় ঢাকা পড়ে যাচ্ছে (নন্দীগ্রামে CBI তদন্ত বন্ধ করার নেপথ্যে কে ছিল!)। তাই বলতে দ্বিধা নেই যে, আসলে বর্তমানে যে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের শাসক, সে ই ভারতবর্ষের কেন্দ্রীয় শাসকও বটে ! ফলে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে বন্ ধ ডাকা আসলে নিজের বিরূদ্ধেই বন্ ধ ডাকা নয় কি ?!

Politics of "Bandhs"

In a democratic country like India, Bandh(Total Clousure) is a tool in the hands of the citizen to voice their protest against either the rulers or against any notorious or unholy power . It is but natural that this tool (Bandh) in general is used by the opposition parties against the ruling party. However even the ruling party may call a Bandh, as a protest against some foreign or sinister power or against some very notorious human tragedies. This itself is debatable. But for the last 30 years we have seen the ruling party in West Bengal calling yearly Bandhs as if it were a part of their routine ! We can understand a Bandh called against the Modi Govt in Gujarat or the BJP Govt at the Center. But the Bandh called on 8th August 2007 for the Un organised working class by CITU(the worker's union of the ruling party of West Bengal) raises some questions. It seems that this Bandh is also directed against the policies of Central Govt of India!

Firstly we humbly ask -- Why the West Bengal Govt, being in power for 30 years, did not attend to the probems of the unorganised sector working class, instead of calling a Bandh ?

Secondly this Central govt is wholely supported by the ruling parties of West Bengal! All the misdeeds of the West Bengal govt is prompty covered up by the Central govt (who was behind calling off the CBI enquiry in Nandigram!). So in fact, the ruling parties of the state of West Bengal are also the de facto rulers of India(Central govt). So isn't this Bandh, called against the so called Central Govt really a Bandh called against themselves?!

In our college life, in the traction paper, we came to know that an electric locomotive would follow a total period divided into 4 zones while going from one station to another. These zones are accelerating zone, where the engine gains speed starting from zero to come to the highest speed, coasting zone, where the engine takes only little power to maintain its speed, regenerative zone where the engine gradually reduces speed and the resultant power is fed back to the traction overhead electric line, breaking zone where break is applied for fast speed reduction, before the train stops. ......

We even hear someone or some class or people of some countries are more progressed or less progressed compared to others.Hence, to discuss about progress we should first analyze what is progress and the unit of its measurement. Since, the basic instinct of a human, or for that matter any animal, is to live happily (less difficulty in struggling for existence should also mean more happiness) and for as much time as possible, human progress should mean the advancement of a particular man or class or mankind, as a whole, from the initial prehistoric almost-ape-just-man stage in terms of happy-living with increased longevity and the unit of measurement of progress should, then, be content of happiness.In case, these definitions of progress and unit of its measurement are taken as base, if we want to progress we should increase our - content of happiness. সম্প্রতি পশ্চিমবঙ্গের কয়েকটি পৌরসভা ও পঞ্চায়েত নির্বাচনে প্রদত্ত ভোটের হিসেবে গড়মিল ধরা পড়েছে । একটি ক্ষেত্রে (নলহাটি পুরসভা) পুনর্বার নির্বাচনের ফলে ফলাফল উলটে যায়, সন্দেহকে প্রমাণ করে । যার ফলে নির্বাচনের ফলাফল নিয়ে সন্দেহ ওঠা স্বাভাবিক । সুতরাং এমন সন্দেহ অমূলক নয় যে বিগত বিধানসভা নির্বাচনেও এই ঘটনা ঘটে থাকতে পারে । সেই সময়ও ইভিএম এর সফ্টওয়্যারে কারচুপি ছিল বলে অনেকেই সন্দেহ প্রকাশ করেছিলেন কিছু তথাকথিত বুর্জুয়া সংবাদ পত্রগুলিতে ! বেশ খানিকটা শোরগোলও তোলা হয়েছিল । কিন্তু প্রমাণের অভাবে তেমন কিছু করা সম্ভব হয় নি । যে যন্ত্রের উপরে মানুষের জীবনের ভবিষ্যত নির্ভর করছে, সেখানে এই রকম ভুল ভ্রান্তি অথবা কারচুপি বা রিগিং এর সুযোগ থাকা কি বাঞ্ছনীয় ? তাহলে কাগজের ব্যালট বদলে কোটি কোটি টাকা খরচ করে এই ইভিএম প্রচলন করার কি প্রয়োজন ছিল ?

এ বিষয়ে আপনার মতামত খুবই সময়োপযোগী হবে ।

Can Electronic Voting Machine really do away with rigging ?

Resently Newspaper reportings suggests that thare were flaws in some of the Electronic Voting Machines leading to very doubtful results. In one case (Nalhati Municipality) the results were reversed after a re-elecrion. Therefore it will not be irrational to suspect that similar occurances took place during the last election to the West Bengal Bidhan Sabha. A lot of people expressed there doubt and reservations about the outcome of that Election at that time ! Even some of the so called Bourgeois Newspapers voiced their concern over this issue ! But with out any concrete proof, the matter sort of died down. In the light of the present findings, must we use such a machine, which can give such erratic results or can be manipulated to give biased or rigged results ? In that case what was justification of removing cheaper paper ballots and spending Crores of Indian Tax payer's money for introducing these EVMs.

মাতৃভাষা

ছোটো বেলার থেকে আমরা বড়দের কাছে শুনি মাতৃভাষায় শিক্ষাই প্রকৃত শিক্ষা ,

কিন্তু কোনটা যে আমার মাতৃভাষা এ ব্যাপারে কেউ কি দিয়েছে দীক্ষা ।

মাতৃভূমি বললে, আমরা সাধারণতঃ বুঝি সেই দেশ যে দেশে কেউ জন্ম নেয় ,

তাহলে মাতৃভাষা হওয়া উচিত যে ভাষায় সে দেশের লোকেরা কথা কয় ।

আমরা বাঙালিরা মাতৃভুমি বলতে বুঝি আমাদের দেশ যার নাম ভারতবর্ষ,

আর মাতৃভাষা বলতে বুঝি বাংলা ভাষা যা শুধু বাংলা প্রদেশে ব্যবহার্য।

মরা বাঁচা কোনোটা সম্বন্ধেই আমাদের সত্যিকারের কোনো রকম নিয়ন্ত্রণ নেই ,

তবু ডাক্তারি শাস্ত্রের কৃপায় আমরা অসুস্থ ও বৃদ্ধের মরণকাল দেরী করাই ।

কিন্তু এটা খুবই আশ্চর্যের ব্যাপার যে যেখানে বাঁচার আর কোনো মানেই হয় না

সেখানেও কষ্ট লাঘব প্রয়াসে ডাক্তার রোগীর মৃত্যুকে ত্বরাণ্বিত করতে পারে না ।

আন্দোলন হিংসাত্মক না হলে শাসক ফিরে তাকায় না কেন?

Why agitations in India must be made violent for Authorities to take note ?

There is a peculiar midset among the ruling and administrating class to ingnore any agitation till such time it becomes violent. The West Bengal govt has not bothered to address the Singur situation because they know that the political parties involed sweared by the path of Ahimsa! But for the Gujjer problem the Rajasthan CM had to sit across the table with in a week as it had become violent. This sends a very dangerous message to the people to take law in to their own hands.

আমাদের দেশে যে কোনো আন্দোলন যতক্ষণ না হিংসাত্মক হয়ে ওঠে, শাসক ও আমলারা মাথা ঘামান না । সিঙ্গুর নিয়ে যেন শাসকের কিছুই যায় আসে না । জমিটা হাতিয়ে নেওয়া গেছে, ব্যাস । এই আন্দোলন যে এখনও হিংসাত্মক হয়ে ওঠে নি তাই কি এই আচরণ ? অন্য দিকে রাজস্থানে গুজ্জরদের আনেদোলন (যার যৌক্তিকতাও বিতর্কিত) হিংসাত্মক ছিল বলেই কি মূখ্যমন্ত্রী বাধ্য হয়েছিলেন এক সপ্তাহের মধ্যে কিছু একটা করতে ? দেশে এ রকম ঘটতে থাকলে মানুষের কাছে সাঙ্ঘাতিক এক বার্তা পৌঁছাচ্ছে যে যে কোনো কাজের জন্যই আইন নিজের হাতে তুলে নিলে না নিলে এ দেশে কাজ হয় না ।

সিবিআই সিঙ্গুরে সফল। নন্দীগ্রামের কি হবে?

পশ্চিম বঙ্গ সরকারের শাসক দলের প্রধাণ কার্যালয় থেকে শুরু করে স্থানীয় দলীয় নেতাদের, এবং এই রাজ্যের মানুষের করের টাকায় মাইনে পাওয়া পুলিশের অনুসন্ধান বিভাগ - সিআইডির, তাপসীর আত্মহত্যার আশংকা যে শাক দিয়ে মাছ ঢাকার নগ্ন প্রচেষ্টা তা আর বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না । মিডিয়াতে মিটিমিটি হাস্য সহকারে, তাপসীর চারিত্রিক কুত্সার ইঙ্গিত করতে অনেকেই ছাড়েননি। অথচ তাপসীর পুড়ে যাওয়া শরীরের ছবি দেখে প্রথমেই সবার মনে প্রশ্ন উঠেছিল - দেহের মধ্যভাগ কেন পোড়া ? ধর্ষণের প্রমাণ তো সেখানেই থাকে! তবে কি ধর্ষণের পর খুন করে এভাবে জ্বালিয়ে সাক্ষী এবং প্রমাণ দুইই লোপাট করার চেষ্টা ?

এ রকম মারাত্বক এবং এর চেয়ে শতগুণ বড় সাক্ষী-প্রমাণ লোপাটের ঘটনা নন্দীগ্রামে ঘটেছে বলে অনেকে সন্দেহ করছেন । ডিভিশনাল কমিশনার শ্রী বলবীর রাম, সদ্য জমা দেওয়া রিপোর্টে সরকারী ভাবে জানিয়েছেন যে ১৪ই মার্চ বিকেলে কে বা কারা গায়ে পুলিশের উর্দি ও লাল ফেট্টি বেঁধে সেখানে গিয়ে তাণ্ডব চালিয়েছিল । সুতরাং অন্ততত এটা স্বীকার করা হচ্ছে যে ১৪ তারিখ এর পরেও কিছু ঘটেছে যা আমরা বিভিন্ন টিভি চ্যানেলে দেখতে এবং শুনতে পেয়েছি । সেই দিন বিকেলে "তারা নিয়ুজ" চ্যানেলের নন্দীগ্রামের সাংবাদিকের সঙ্গে তাঁদের কলকাতার স্টুডিও থেকে লাইভ যে কথোপকথন আমরা শুনেছি তাতে স্পষ্ট শোনা গেছে তাঁকে প্রাণে মেরে ফেলার হুমকি । এর পরেই ফোনটি কেটে দেওয়া হয় । অনেক পরে সেই সাংবাদিক কোনো মতে প্রাণে বেঁচে ফেরেন । কিছু একটা নারকীয় যে ঘটেছিল তা রাজ্যপালের উক্তিতেই পরিস্কার । তিনি নিশ্চয়ই তাঁর নিজস্ব সাংবিধানিক উপায়ে খবর পেয়েছিলেন যা আমাদের সংবাদ মাধ্যম থেকে স্বতন্ত্র ।

১৬ তারিখ শাসক দলের ডাকা বন্ধ এর জন্য সেই এলাকায় কেউই যাতায়াত করতে পারেন নি । কার্যত নিষিদ্ধ এলাকা হয়ে ছিল। কেন ? কি করা হচ্ছিল তখন ? সংবাদ মাধ্যমে যা পড়েছি তা এক কথায় নারকীয় । সেই সময় নাকি সেখানে চলছিল সাক্ষী এবং প্রমাণ লোপাটের কাজ । ১৭ তারিখেই মাননীয় কলকাতা হাইকোর্টের আদেশে সিবিআই সেখানে গিয়ে তদন্ত শুরু করেন এবং ততক্ষণে অনেক কিছু লোপাট হয়ে যাবার পরেও যা পেয়েছিলেন, তা জেনে আমরা হতবাক হয়েছিলাম । কিন্তু এক অদৃশ্য কারণে সিবিআই এর এই কাজ থামিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছিল । আজও সিবিআই কাজ শুরু করতে পারেন নি । অনেকেই এই কাজে, রাজ্যের শাসকদলের কলকাঠি নাড়ার সাথে সাথে কেন্দ্রের বন্ধু সরকারের হাত আছে বলে মনে করছেন । তিন মাসের অধিক অতিবাহিত হয়েছে সেই সুযোগে সাফসাফাইয়ের কাজ সম্পূর্ণ ! জননী ইটভাটা থেকে সিবিআই এর গ্রেপ্তার করা শাসক দলের ভাড়াটে সেনা বাহিনীকে ছেড়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে ।

ঠিক কি ঘটেছিল তা কি আজ আর জানা সম্ভব ? তাপসী মালিকের খুনীদের মত নন্দীগ্রামের নরপিশাচদেরও কি আমরা চিহ্নিত করতে সক্ষম হব ? তার জন্য আর কত অপেক্ষা করতে হবে ?

সরকারী হিসেবে মৃতের সংখ্যা মাত্র ১৪ । মহাজাতিসদনের শান্তি-বৈঠকে শাসক দলের বড় শরিক সিপিএমের নেতারা স্বীকার করতেই চান নি যে এটা গণহত্যা । তাই সেই বৈঠক ভেস্তে গিয়েছিল । মাঝে মাঝেই খবরে প্রকাশ পাচ্ছে যে এখনও সেই এলাকায় বহু বাড়ী জনশূণ্য হয়ে পড়ে আছে যার অধিবাসীদের কোনো হদিস নেই । আমরা আশা রাখি যে সিবিআই কে যদি ঠিক মত তদন্ত করতে দেওয়া হয় তবে সত্য উদ্ঘাটিত হবেই ।

এখানে মনে করিয়ে দেওয়া উচিত যে এমন ঘটনা নন্দীগ্রামেই প্রথম ঘটল না । কেশপুর, গড়বেতা সহ বহু নাম লিখে দেওয়া যায়। ছোট আঙ্গারিয়ার কেস এ সেখানকার মানুষ এতই ত্রস্ত যে কোর্টে দাঁড়িয়ে স্ত্রী নিজের লোপাট হওয়া স্বামীর নাম মনে করতে পারে নি !

সিঙ্গুর ও নন্দীগ্রামের আন্দোলনকে কেন্দ্র করে নানান নেতা বা ব্যক্তিত্বের অবস্থান কে দুষ্ট কবির চোখে কেমন লেগেছে, তা তার কবিতা "নন্দীগ্রামের কে কোথায় দাঁড়িয়ে" এবং "সিঙ্গুরে কে কোথায় দাঁড়িয়ে" তে লিখে যাচ্ছেন । তার থেকে এখানে কিছু অংশ তুলে দেওয়া হল । আরও অনেক চরিত্র ও পদ রয়েছে এই পদাবলীটিতে ! আপনি এর সাথে এক মত হতে বা নাও হতে পারেন । তাই আপনার মতামত এখানে জানিয়ে রেখে যান, সে যে দিকেই ঝোল টানুন না কেন! মনে রাখতে হবে যে রাজনীতিতে আজ যিনি ভক্ষক কাল তিনি রক্ষক হতেই পারেন । অত্যাচারী রাজকুমার অশোক পরে মহান সম্রাট অশোক হয়েছিলেন । এর উলটোটাও তো দেখাই যাচ্ছে !

... যত দিন পুঁজিপতিরা মনে করবেন যে সেই দেশের বা রাজ্যের সরকার তাঁদের বিপক্ষে, তার মানেই সাধারণমানুষ বা তথাকথিত কৃষক-শ্রমিক শ্রেণীর পক্ষে, ততদিন তাঁরা লগ্নি করতে চাইবেন না যে মুহুর্তে তাঁদের মনেহবে যে সরকার তাঁদের পক্ষে, মানে সরকার সাধারণ মানুষ বা কৃষক-শ্রমিক শ্রেণীর বিপক্ষে, সে দিন থেকেতাঁরা সেই রাজ্যে লগ্নি করা শুরু করবেন সেই রাজ্যের পরিস্থিতি যাই হোক না কেন সোজা ভাষায়, যেসরকার তাঁর ছাপোষা জনতাকে মেরে বা প্রয়োজনে খুন করে পুঁজিপতির জমি / কারখানা / সম্পত্তি / রক্ষাকরতে পিছপা হয় না সেই সরকারের রাজ্যই পুঁজি নিবেশের সব চেয়ে ভাল জায়গা বলে তাঁরা বিবেচনা করেথাকেন বলে আমার মনে হয় সিঙ্গুরের জমি দখলের প্রক্রিয়া করে দেখিয়ে বুদ্ধদেব বাবু পুঁজিপতিদের আস্থাভাজন হতে পেরেছেন তাই পরদিন থেকেই নিবেশ করার জন্য এখানে লাইন লেগে গিয়েছিল ...

... Till th lime the investors feel that the govt. of a Nation or a state are against them, which means that the govts.are pro people, they will not like to invest. The moment they feel that the govt. is against the people, hence pro investers, they will start investments.No matter what the true situation in the state may be (law and order). In plain language, the state whose govt. does not hestate to thrash its own citizen and even does not hesitate to kill them to save land / factories / property of the investors, will always be viewed by investors as the most favorite place to invest. By forcibly grabbing land at Singur, the Chief Minister Mr Byddhadeb Bhattacharya had won the confidence of the Investors. That is why the Investors started Q'ing up for investing in West Bengal right from the next day.....

এত জমি চাই কেন ? Why new industries are asking for so much of excess land ?

... এখন যার কাছে তেল আছে, কয়লা আছে সে ই প্রকৃত ধনী যেমন গাল্ফের শেখরা তাই যখন এই ইন্ধনের ভাণ্ডার শেষ হয়ে যাবে তখন সে ই সব থেকে ধনী হবে যার কাছে তখনকার জ্বালানি পর্যাপ্ত থাকবে যেটা অবশ্যই সৌর শক্তি আর সৌর শক্তি তার তত বেশী হবে যার যত বেশী জমি থাকবে ! বিশেষ করে পৃথিবীর সেই সব যায়গায় যেখানে সূর্যের আলো সারা বছর ধরে প্রখর থাকে - ট্রপিক্যাল দেশগুলি যেমন ভারত ! এবং বেশীরভাগ তৃতীয় বিশ্বের দেশ, এই গরীব দেশগুলি ভবিষ্যতে সারা পৃথিবীতে জ্বালানির দিক দিয়ে ধনী হবে এটা প্রথম বিশ্বের কাছে, হজম করা একটু কষ্টকর ! তাই তারা এখনই উঠে পড়ে লেগেছে এই সব দেশে জমি দখল করে রাখতে ভবিষ্যতের কথা ভেবে তাই এখনই বহুজাতিকরা চেষ্টা করছে যাতে, যে কোনো ছুতোয় বেশী জমি দখল করে রাখতে ...

...Who ever has fuel reserves today are the richest in the world like the Gulf Shekhs. So in future when this fuel reserve will finish, those who will have access to the maximum energy reserves of that time, will be the richest or will have good bargaining power. There is no doubt that this new energy will be Solar Energy. And who ever will have large areas of land will have access to large quantity of Solar Energy, specially in those parts of the world whare the Sun is brightest through out the year - the Tropical countries like India and many of the Third World countries ! That these poor countries will become energy rich nations in future is quite hard for the First World countries to digest. So they have started reserving huge chunks of land in these third world countries in the garb of Industrialisation...

ফরসা হবার প্রসাধনী দ্রব্যের বিজ্ঞাপন নিষিদ্ধ করা উচিত ! এটা একশো ভাগ বর্ণ বিদ্বেষ মূলক প্রচার ! মানবতা বিরোধী !
Body fairness enhancing ads should be banned ! They are cent percent discriminatory and racial in nature. They violate Human Rights !

The ads for the cosmetics claiming to make you look fair have taken over the advertising world by storm. They are only trying to sell their products which normally should not create any problem. But in doing so they are showing that being dark complexioned (Being Black) is bad and disadvantageous in life. A clear case of cashing in on the "Colour of skin factor" which stinks of Racisim. We believe that this form of blatant racial ads should be stopped. The Govt. of India and it's Censor board should put an end to this blasphemy against Humanity. It is not only vulgar but it is also steadily inducing inferiority complex in dark complexioned girls. And now Boys too!!

The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Delhi thought it wise to visit Nandigram on 13th June 2006. He was briefed by the CM Sri. Buddhadeb bhattacharjee before going there. He said that some people were trying to create communal tensions in Nandigram. But the people of Nandigram thought just the opposite, that there was no communal tension there and that the Imam's words were itself communal and therefore they did not allow him to visit the area as he would have liked to. What was the Imam trying to do there after so long time ? What will he get in return for it from both the Centre and State Government of West Bengal ?

Was it right for him to visit Nandigram ?

Who should be the next President of India
We already have three names.
1. Shri. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
2. Shri. Pranab Mukherjee.
3. Shri. Somnath Chatterjee.

So friends, please give your opinion about this issue.
How do they fare against the present President Shri. APJ Abdul Kalam ? If none from the above list then Who should he or She be? What should be his or her back ground, stature, service to the nation, and other criterias ? Remember He or She is going to become our First Citizen.

Sri. Buddhadeb Bhattacharya must be sacked

We express our anguish and despair at the Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya's demonic genocidal activities at Nandigram and Singur in West Bengal, India and demand his immediate sacking. We refuse to accept his apology.

We have been quiet for so long. It is time to speak out. If you keep quite today, tomorrow your home may become another Nandigram or Singur. Please comment on this Topic. Do what you can, what is possible by you to oppose this reign of terror.

In view of the reports :

1. The Chief Minister has again spoken that how long will Nandigram remain cut off.

2. Mr. Binoy Konar's warning that his Party(CPIM) was not at all ashamed of what they did in Nandigram and hence no question of any compensation to the families of the dead and injured.

3. Contineous Firing and bombing of Nandigram area from Khejuri's side by the CPIM backed mercenaries or popularly called "Harmad Bahini", injuring ordinary people.

4. Resent Police lathi charge on Nandigram Protest Marchers after three bombs were hurled at them from a local CPIM office.

Do you think that there is another plan in the offing by the authorities to make another attemp at Re-captureing their(CPIM's) lost ground in Nandigram ? Do you fear another Genocide?
