Sigmund Freud as a leader and science, in general, made us to believe that inter-course is performed by all animals, except the very primitive types, only to serve the purpose of birth of off-springs. This quality is instinctive and not created by the particular type of animal for their survival and happier living, like some animals, mainly man, has created on their own over and above the instinctive qualities.
Again we experience that if because of some reason, we have to act against or suppress or try to control our instinctive qualities, we become sad and regret for such actions inside ourselves, as in most such cases, we cannot .....

The questions raised by the author in this article has always been asked by mankind. Tabling of these questions in a very logical way is to the author's credit.
ReplyDeleteI would like to add another angle to that.
The science of Genetics is gradually opening the doors to many secrets of our life. The theory is that life's sole purpose is to stay alive for ever. Hence if we can't stay alive then we must procreate so that a part of us may still be alive in our children when we are gone. May be that is why we are ready to kill others to stay alive.
That may be the reson why we love our children more than our old parents. Because Children are the carriers of our genes in future, which is the sole purpose of life and the Genes.
As in most other species in the animal kingdom, the sole purpose of conjugation is to create offsprings. But the homosepians(mankind) are the most developed of all and so all the other complications such as love and sex for pleasure play a signifacant role in our lives.
Just to mention here, Man is not the only animal who have sex for pleasure! It has been observed that Dolphins also have sex for pleasure!
Scientists have come up with some explanation about why a person is sexy! The answer again can be found in the process of evolution. A woman used to choose the strongest and the most handsome male so as to have strong and heathy children(This is still the criteria in the animal kingdom. The strongest male gets to mate with the females in the herd). On the other hand Men chose women with sound breasts to ensure that their children got enough milk after birth. Also men rejected the skinny females for the simple reason that during the pregnency period, if there was a shortage of food for some natural cause, the baby inside would not get required nourishment as the fat reserves are low in a skinny body. On the other hand a woman with rounded buttocks and of good health was an indication that the baby inside would be well fed even if there was no food supply for quite some time.
These features in man and woman over thousands of years of evolution have developed in to the instincts for attraction! Other features such as a beautiful face, high chick bones or love at first sight are still difficult to explain, scientifically.
Please do not think I am some expert! I only sat through one of the Discovery Channel programs!
