  1. Kashmir, the only Muslim majority state in India is again burning. This time it is because the Ghulam Nabi Azad govt in Kashmir magnanimously decided to hand over 40 hectres of land to the Sri Amarnath Shrine for making temporary arrangement for the increasing number of Hindu pilgrims.

The Muslim majority are suspicious that the govt is going to settle Hindus in that area and change the Demograpic set up of Kashmir valley.

Support to Azad's Congress led govt was taken back by PDP. Now he has to prove his majority in J & K assembly! He has however withdrawn the land order and has told that now the J & K govt would do the job of temporary accomodation of the Hindu pilgrims.
The Hindu dominated Jammu has flared up after this decission.

A lot of questions have cropped up:

Did Mr Azad have any other alternative?

Should the people of Kashmir been more accomodating and agreed to the land transfer?

Was it not their responsibility as they are the majority in the state?

Is it going to cast a shadow on our National and regional politics, which is now entirely communalised?

Give your Comments on this situation.

  2. For someone who resides many miles away from Kashmir and is not directly related to the turmoil there, I feel that the Muslim population there should have been more accomodating. However, the govt. should have taken the people of the state into confidence before embarking on such a sensitive issue in haste.
If the govt. could have made arrangements for the accommodation of the pilgrims themselves as they are now saying, why take the decision that they took?
Though the transfer order has been revoked, the damage has already been done. This shows how deep set the wounds are, and how little trust there is between the concerned communities.
Such things happen due to a lack of political vision. One can only hope that this communal flare-up does not spread to other parts of the country.
To prevent further damage, political parties need to act responsibly. However, they have sensed blood and the PDP, and the BJP have already got into action(!). GOD HELP INDIA.

  3. BJP has been quick to react, as you said! This was the golden opportunity they were gifted by Azad saab on a platter!

Today they observed Bharat Bandh! though they called it Hartal. Though it was more or less restricted to North and Central India, it is not a good omen.

Politicians forget the famous proverb - "Look Before You Leap" !
