Cricket !!
Resently there is a tussle going on between the newly formed Indian Cricket League and the BCCI. What do you think is the true reason for this tussle and what may be its fall out in the future ? In this tussle Kapil Dev has been sacked from the position of the Principal of the Cricket Academy. Considering the contribution of Kapil Dev towards Indian Cricket, how justified is this move ? Please give your COMMENTS on this issue and also about any other aspect of Cricket in this page.

  1. Like the first ODI Rahul chose to field first and India lost again. England batted pretty well to score 281. It seems that Rahul's calls are more WRONG than RIGHT. Without taking anything away from the 'batsman' Rahul, should'nt we find a captain who has the ability to be more RIGHT than WRONG??

  2. These days Indian cricket fans are very quick to criticize Sachin and Sourav, unfairly, most of the times. It seems to me that because these iconic cricketers have set their success bar so high throughout their career, Indian fans are unable to accept anything less from them.

The only constant in life is that nothing is constant. Sachin and Sourav are no exceptions and also human beings, not Gods. They are still performing better than most other Indian players. Just remember names like, Raina, Venugopal Rao and many others who came and are gone. We should appreciate the consistent long term services by these two legends. Until new legends are found let us encourage them with some positive energy and kind words!! May God bless them.

  3. Indeed! we must be supportive of them. After all they are also human.
On the other hand there has been some development in the BCCI Vs ICL tussle! The supreme court of India, in an interim order restrained all employers against sacking or taking any action against anyone who has joined the ICL.
What do you think about that?

  4. Rahul is a great batsman, but, is he a good captain?

Now that Team India has lost the ODI series in England, Rahul's captaincy must be evaluated.

First, he made a mess at winning the tosses and choosing the wrong options. I am sure that Rahul knows his trade and can read the pitch better than most cricketers. Then what is he lacking?

He is lacking the right instinct and raw courage a captain needs. He not only looks nervus on the field, he is nervus as a captain. One looses timing and judgement when one, even with great knowledge, is nervus at the time of execution. We all remember those FINAL EXAMS. This is human nature. If this is not true then why would he ask part time bowlers like Yuvi and Sachin to concede more than 40 runs in the last two overs during the 6th ODI? Because a nervus Rahul lost the sense of TIMING and therefore judgement.

Regardless of what he says, Rahul is NOT enjoying his captaincy. But he is a great icon of Indian/World cricket. I would expect the he will remove himself from the burden of captaincy like Sachin did.

  5. Uneasy lies the head which wears the crown!
But give him some time so that his crown sits properly on his head or his head gets fit to wear the crown!
I am sure all will agree that Rahul's team did much better than being just Tourists Visa users!

  6. Like I predicted in my Sept. 9 comment, Rahul has resigned as captain. It is best for Rahul as well for Team India.

  7. Yes AK, You WERE right!
But don't you think that we should give some more time to these personalities who are always under extreme pressure?
As they say that In India, after the PM of India, the Captain of Indian Cricket team is the next most sought after person by the media, whose evey move, every action is always under close scrutiny.
Don't you think under the given circumstances Rahul Dravid scored pretty high marks as a Captain!

This win is all the more sweeter because the runners up were Pakistan!!!

  9. Nov 22: Sourav bowled very well in Delhi. Anil, one of the greatest cricketers of all time and the new captain, used Sourav as an attack bowler. Sourav returned the captain's trust by taking the most dangerous wicket of Yousuf (and almost got Malik). Sourav bowled with energy and passion indicating that he was enjoining the game. This is the reason why Anil kept Sourav in the playing eleven.

No cricket lover would be surprised at the above events. Why? Because, I think we are so used to getting "PERFORMANCE" from Sourav, Sachin, Rahul and Anil.

    My questions:
    1. Why do people demand Sachin or Sourav's retirement or sacking?
    2. Does one have to retire at a certain age in sports?
    3. If AGE is THE criteria, then why Anil, Sourav, Sachin, Dravid, Gilchrist, Ponting and many others are still playing?
    4. If PERFORMANCE is THE criteria, then shuld'nt a performing player play until he/she is ready to retire?
    5. If a balanced mixture of PERFORMANCE & AGE is THE criteria, who will decide the definition of that mixture?

Inclusion of a super player, many times lifts the spirit of a team for reasons beyond explanation like Geneous, Charisma, People Skill, etc. Sourav, Sachin, Anil and Rahul are players who fall in one or more of these categories. If these super players have been able to manage their super-careers so well so for so long, why don't we trust their own judgement when to retire?

  10. What do you all think about the present trend in Indian Cricket? We observed the formation of IPL and thought it will do away with monopoly of the Board! We welcomed the move.
But gradually the hidden text is being revealed!

First we saw how the Cricketers were auctioned one by one! Not a single of them protested. All were desparate to get auctioned! Well, does it not remind us of medivial times? Human trafficking? Lets not take it lightly as a joke! Is this any different from slavery?

And now we see the Cheer Leaders! They are supposed to encourage the players to play and supporters to cheer! We know that this is a normal custom of the United States of America. But do we have to ape them in every sphere of our lives? And what about their attire? Does it go with the Indian temperament? It is hard to believe that the organisers are trying to sell tickets to the matches by using these half naked girls as baits!

Why are Khemtas and Bar girls barred in many parts then? Seeing a sexy dance in a Bollywood movie on the screen of a cinema hall or on a television screen is one thing, and watching it right in front of you on an open field is another!

What about cricket in schools and Colleges? Will we be starting Cheer leader bussiness there too? Getting them from States will surely be too expensive! So will the student girls be asked to perform the act?

We welcome the decision of the Maharashtra Govt for not allowing it in their state.

The role of West Bengal govt is very intriguing too! The govt did not utter a single word against any of these. But they thought the whole prestige of Bengal was punctured because of the power failure leading to switching off the lights in the stadium.

Judging by their efforts to mass popularise consumption of alcohol and their party cadre's well planned and systematic effort to terrorise the opposition by means of gang rape, genocide, loot and arson for winning elections, We do not expect anything better from them.

This state, reeling perpetually under power shortage problem suddenly feels that their prestige is at stake due to an illumination disruption on a cricket field while many a times hapless patients have to remain satisfied with power failures in the midst of oprations in govt and pvt hospitals!

    Arn't their priorities warped?

Commercialisation of Cricket is ok but selling off all our social fabrik and self esteem in this manner is disgusting and must be condemned and stopped!

You may or may not agree with us. But please do write your comments on this issue.
